The New Industrial Migrants (part 1 & 2)

Summary for part 1
In modern day meat packing plants,  there is a turnover rate of up to 80 percent a year. This means that 80 percent of the people working there will either quit or be fired within the first year. There are two main reasons why people are fired so often at these meat packing plants. They are either not doing a good job, or their boss fires them before their life insurance kicks in so that he can save some money.

Summary for part 2
This article talks about the amount of illegal immigrants working in meat packing plants. One quarter of all meatpacking workers are illegal immigrants. This is because the company sends recruiting teams to poor communities throughout the united states to find people who would work for the lowest wages. The companies do this becuase they say immigrants would be more reluctant to join unions.
