Blog 7: I Am A Cyborg

A cyborg is someone who works well with computers and other technology. I believe i am a cyborg because i can't go a day without my blackberry, my i-pod, or my computer. I've gotten so used to having them with me all day that i can't imagine my life without them. Everyone relies on some type of technology. I believe that people wouldn't be able to function without certain devices. Whether you rely on a cell phone or a computer, it's safe to say that we've all become addicted to some kind of machine.
Machines are changing the way we do everyday things. MP3 players make your daily commute a little more bearable by letting you listen to music on a small, portable device. Most people are cyborgs and don't even know it. If you took away all the machines in a  persons life, simple tasks would become much harder. For example, i like to check my credit card balance online instead of going to the bank. If i had to walk to the bank every time i wanted to check my balance that would waste a lot of my time. People who choose to work alongside machines are always going to have an advantage over someone who likes to do things the old fashioned way.
Although technology tends to make most a lot of things easier, there are certain things that require a human touch. I was calling T-Mobile the other day to change my texting plan and i was talking to a recording for about twenty minutes before it finally put me through to a real person. This is a perfect example of machines doing something a person should be doing. Although machines are very useful, they can't be expected to interact with people the way a human can. They have no emotions and they can't cater to your specific needs, they can only do what they are programmed to do.
Their are pros and cons when it comes to machines. But in my opinion, the pros outweigh the cons. The benefits of working alongside machines are too great to stop using them. My life is much easier because of two little devices that i carry with me every day. If something so small can help me get through the day then i'm sure a computer can do something much greater, like keep a business running properly. I would say i am a cyborg and i advise other people to become cyborgs too.

  1. Great blog entry: clear, to the point, and with a good set of specific examples to prove your claim that you are a cyborg.

If you don't mind, I am going to use this as an example for others...
